1. Educational Objectives of the program

Ph.D. in Defense and Security Studies" at the Joaan bin Jassim Academy for Defense Studies is a specialized postgraduate program. It seeks to achieve the following learning objectives:

• To become well versed in various theoretical trends and schools of thought prevailing in the field of defense and security studies, and to keep abreast of the development of knowledge in this field.

• To produce Qatari researchers and scholars who are distinguished by the academic quality of their research works that is published national, regional and international journals.

• To elevate the academic reputation of the Joaan bin Jassim Academy for Defense Studies, which aspires to become a regional and international model, known for the quality of higher education and specialized academic research, and the role in the service of national security.

• To promote specialized research in four branches of defense and security studies, which are: defense economics; intelligence and cyber security studies, military strategy, and defense diplomacy.

• Encouraging specialized authoring and publishing, and providing relevant consultations according to the goals and directions of the Academy.

2. Educational outputs of the program

This program will enable graduates to obtain the following outcomes:

• Being comprehensively knowledgeable about theoretical and practical aspects of defense and security studies as an independent field of scholarship, holding fast to the analytical, critical and interdisciplinary methodology that covers the epistemological crossroads among various branches of knowledge.

• Ability to write and publish peer-reviewed research works in this area of specialization.

• Ability to serve as an efficient faculty member at universities and the capability of catering to the needs of the institutes and colleges under Qatar Armed Forces.

• Ability to participate in academic activities such as conferences and seminars and to cooperate with national, regional and international research centers.

• Ability to supervise pertinent research works and make continuous contributions to the knowledge and practice of the field of defense and security studies.
